Volume:

Cylinder

"This tool is designed to determine the volume of a cylindrical object based on its length and diameter. It eliminates the need for unit conversions, as you can independently select measurement units for length, diameter, and volume, allowing flexibility in unit combinations.

Upon entering the length and diameter measurements, the calculated volume will be displayed in the answer box. Additionally, a graphic depicting the cylindrical shape with labeled dimensions will dynamically update whenever input values or unit selections are modified."

Formulas:-

The cylinder has three major quantities, based on which we have the formulas.

  • Lateral Surface Area or curved surface area
  • Total Surface Area
  • Volume
Let us see, their formulas now.

Curved Surface Area of Cylinder:-

The area of the curved surface of the cylinder which is contained between the two parallel circular bases. It is also stated as a lateral surface area. The formula for it is given by:

Curved Surface Area = 2Ï€rh square units

Total Surface Area of Cylinder:-

The total surface area of a cylinder is the sum of curved surafce area and the area of two circular bases.
  • TSA = Curved surface + Area of Circular bases
  • TSA = 2Ï€rh + 2Ï€r2
We can see, from the above expression, 2Ï€r is common. Therefore,

total surface area, A = 2Ï€r(r+h) square units

Volume of Cylinder:-

Every three dimensional shape or a solid has volume that occupies some space. The volume of the cylinder is the space occupied by it in any three-dimensional plane. The amount of water that could be immersed in a cylinder is described . The formula is given by:

Volume of the Cylinder, V = πr2h cubic units

Where ‘h’ is the height and ‘r’ is the radius.

Example 1:-

Find the volume of a hollow cylinder whose outer radius is 7 cm and inner radius is 5 cm and height is 7 cm. (Use π = 22/7)

Solution:

Given:
Outer Radius = 7 cm
Inner Radius = 5 cm
Height = 7 cm.
To find: V.

We know that the formula for the volume of a hollow cylinder is π (R2-r2)h cubic units.
Substituting the known values in the formula, we get
V = (22/7)(72 – 52)7 cm3
V = 22(49-25) cm3
V = 22(24) cm3
V = 528 cm3

Therefore, the volume of a hollow cylinder’s outer radius is 7 cm,
inner radius is 5 cm and height is 7 cm is 528 cm3.
